NASCAR: Monkey see, Monkey do

A reader writes, Why is it that NASCAR copies what other racing series invents and then takes credit for?

Examples:

Donuts after a victory (Zanardi, CART)
Climbing the fence after a victory (Castroneves, CART/IRL)
SAFER Barrier (IMS/IRL)
HANS Device (Jim Downing, CART/IRL/IMSA/Sports Car Racing)

Now NASCAR is copying the old tradition of the night before the 500 race at IRP. The little good ol' boys will run at IRP the night before the Brickyard 400 with the regular good ol' boys. Is anything sacred? Does NASCAR want to take credit for inventing this too? David Koeberlein

Dear Dave, Unfortunately many of the fans, and some of the regular media that cover NASCAR, are Bubbas and have no clue about what may have been invented elsewhere and swallow the lies hook, line and sinker. They are simply sheep that follow their shepherd (NASCAR). Mark C.
