Course changes at Infineon for IndyCars

The IndyCars will exit the left-hand Turn 6 and go straight down the dragstrip rather than take their previous route to Turn 7 at Infineon Raceway

This month's IndyCar race at Infineon Raceway will feature a course change that will shorten the 12-turn circuit from 2.26 to 2.245 miles. Cars will go up the track's drag strip after exiting Turn 6 (Carousel).

Dixon said he tested the modified course in December and is confident that it will allow for more passing.

"It will help," Dixon said, "but it still comes down to strategy."

Nevertheless, Dixon does not think teams will need to adjust the setup of their cars.

"I don't think it will affect it too much," Dixon said. "You're going to brake a little longer and a little harder."

More than 10 drivers, including 2006 winner Marco Andretti, will be at Infineon next week (Aug. 13-14) for a two-day test session.
