Cup qualifying rained out

Qualifying for Saturday night's Bank of America 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup event was rained out Thursday at Lowe's Motor Speedway. The field for the fifth race in the 10-race Chase for the Sprint Cup will be set by owner points, giving points leader Jimmie Johnson the top spot as he tries for his third straight Sprint Cup title.

Carl Edwards will start second, followed by Greg Biffle, Jeff Burton and Clint Bowyer rounding out the top five.

Missing the race will be Brad Keselowski, Bryan Clauson and Scott Speed – all looking to make their Sprint Cup debut – as well as Derrike Cope. Pete McCole reporting from Lowe's
