Stoner to have surgery in Italy

Casey Stoner said he will have surgery on his broken left wrist after the season ends.

The operation will be carried out in Italy after the final race in Valencia, Spain, next weekend, he told reporters at the sidelines of this weekend's Malaysian MotoGP world champion.

Stoner said he would be in cast for one-and-a-half months, adding that it would take about two-and-a-half months to heal.

"It is a broken scaphoid. I broke it five years ago. It had not healed," he said.
