Brands Hatch Prepares for Great Britain A1GP Finale
The Kent circuit has played host to three superb A1GP events so far, including the inaugural race in September 2005 where 72,000 fans attended. In 2009, to offer fans value for money, all entry tickets will remain at the same price as in 2008, with a weekend ticket available from £39 if purchased online in advance. Grandstand seating prices also remain unchanged, starting from £8, and camping is available from £20.
In addition, this year a new £20 pit and paddock pass has been introduced, which includes access to both the GP paddock and the pit lane walkabout. Tickets, grandstand seating and paddock passes will all be available to purchase from this weekend through the Brands Hatch website.
After unfortunately missing the season-opener at Zandvoort, Great Britain have still not tested their chassis, but its car will be in the freight that leaves the UK on Saturday to go to China. The A1GP organizers will allot extra testing time to the team next week at the Chengdu International Circuit prior to official practice.
For round two of the series next week, GBR have recruited the services of Danny Watts to help kick-start the team’s 2008/09 campaign. Watts brings with him a wealth of race experience having been crowned Formula Renault UK Champion in 2002, and winning races in both British Formula 3 and the Porsche Carrera Cup.
Watts is no stranger to A1GP, having tested both the previous Lola-Zytek car and the new Powered by Ferrari car during its development process, and he also drove in the rookie sessions for A1 Team GBR at the Zhuhai event in December 2007. James Winslow will also be on hand next weekend to undertake reserve driver duties
Danny Watts said, “It’s a great privilege and honor to be asked to drive for A1 Team GBR, having represented the team once before in Zhuhai last season. I’ve had the experience of driving both A1GP cars, and the new Powered by Ferrari car is certainly a big step up in all areas. The biggest goal will be to score as many point as possible in Chengdu in order to get GBR’s Championship battle underway as we cannot drop any races for the rest of the year."
The team is also looking forward to the season finale at Brands Hatch, UK with tickets going on sale for the event this Saturday (1 November 2008).
Katie Clements, Team Principal, A1 Team GBR: “We’re delighted to be returning to Brands Hatch for what I'm sure will once again be another brilliant season finale next May. Brands Hatch has truly become A1 Team GBR’s home track, and we always have the most fantastic fans flooding into the circuit to support us and, this time around, they will get to see the new A1GP Powered by Ferrari cars in action, which is certain to be a thrilling experience. We have already had three amazing events at Brands Hatch and I'm looking forward to the season four finale being the best yet."
