Brundle hits out at award night food

(GMM) Martin Brundle is renowned for his forthright, no-nonsense formula one commentary, but his latest outburst has put the wind up one of London's most famous luxury hotels.

The veteran of 158 grands prix, who will remain in the commentary booth in 2009 as the British rights switch from ITV to BBC, raised eyebrows on Sunday night as he rose to announce a winner at the annual Autosport Awards.

He complained to the 800-strong audience, including the great and good of the world of international motor racing: "I'm still picking the lamb out of my teeth.

"Wasn't that the worst meal we've ever been served at the Grosvenor House (Hotel)?" he added.

Brundle's verdict is said to have left the chef considerably unimpressed.

A hotel spokesman told The Independent: "We would like to get in touch with Mr. Brundle and speak to him about it."
