13 spots yet to be filled for F2

Eleven drivers have thus far signed up to compete in the new FIA Formula 2 Championship and they come from an eclectic background as it is not yet clear where the new series will fit into the existing structures of international single-seater racing. The most experienced drivers thus far are Renault World Series runners Julian Jousse from France and Canada's Robert Wickens. The former was runner-up in that championship to Giedo van der Garde. while Wickens split his time between the World Series, the Formula 3 Eurocup and A1GP, winning races in all of them, but not making any impression in the championships.

From Formula 3 there are Italian Marco Zipoli, who raced in Italy, Swiss lady racer Natacha Gachnang, who was a frontrunner in the Spanish F3 series and Sweden's Sebastian Hohenthal, who has spent the last two years in British F3. Formula Renault supplies Henry Surtees (son of former F1 World Champion John Surtees), Germany's Tobias Hegewald, who raced in the Formula Renault Euroseries, Pietro Gandolfi, a lackluster performer in Swiss Formula Renault and 19-year-old Indian Armaan Ebrahim, who has been racing in Asia.

In addition Formula Palmer Audi will provide two F2 drivers: FPA champion Jason Moore and Alex Brundle, the son of former F1 racer turned commentator Martin Brundle.

The number of cars is limited to a maximum of 24 so there are 13 slots left to be filled.

The winner of the championship will receive a full test with the AT&T Williams F1 team while the first three in the final classification will qualify for an FIA Superlicense. Grandprix.com
