JDC Motorsports Set to Challenge for F2000 Championship
A native of Edina, MN, Miller enters the 2009 edition of the F2000 Championship Series among the favorites to contend for the series title. The 19 year-old racer impressed many in his first full-season of formula car racing last year, showing the speed, skill and consistency of a future motorsports standout. After earning a podium finish in his first-ever series race, held at VIR, Miller proceeded to finish inside the top-10 at every round until the season-finale, ending the year fourth overall via four podium finishes, seven top-fives and 11 top-10s. Returning to the cockpit of his No. 85 Miller Milling/Redline Oil/JDC MotorSports Van Diemen RF06/Zetec car, the teenager is posed to use what he has learned over the past year to make multiple trips to victory lane.
"I am really happy to be working with JDC again this season and hope we can pick up where we left off in 2008," stated Miller. “The competition looks strong again in the F2000 Championship Series, but I am confident that we have what it takes to challenge for the championship. The team has been working extremely hard during the offseason and I am pleased with how our recent test went at Mid-America. Last year we were able to begin the season with a podium finish at VIR and it will be important to start 2009 with strong results again. Thanks to everyone at JDC Motorsports, Miller Milling Company, my mechanic Rob Pretts and the F2000 Championship Series for what should be a great season."
For Munoz, the doubleheader at Virginia International Raceway will mark the start of what hopefully will be a successful partnership between the Mexican and JDC MotorSports, which has a long history of developing young drivers. Managed by former Atlantic Championship race winner and 1981 series runner-up Rogelio Rodriquez, Munoz will make his first F2000 Championship start behind the wheel of the No. 96 Black Lion Racing/Redline Oil/JDC MotorSports Van Diemen RF01/Zetec, following a success karting career and having only recently driven a formula car for the first-time via private testing.
The JDC MotorSports drivers and crew travel to the Alton, Va., road course having previously scored a podium finish and four top-10s in the 2008 season-opener at the same track.
“We are definitely looking forward to the start of the 2009 F2000 Championship Series," commented Team Owner John Church. “Last year we showed we could run at the front on regular basis. This year the goal is to win races and challenge for the title. With Chris and Alejandro behind the wheel, I’m confident we have the drivers to accomplish our goals."
The F2000 Championship Series season commences for the JDC MotorSports drivers and the rest of the 25+ car field with test sessions on Thursday morning (April 9) at Virginia International Raceway, followed by official practice session in the afternoon. Both Friday and Saturday will feature a morning qualifying session, followed by an afternoon race.
