Long Beach Thursday happenings

Those who want to get an early start on this year's fun can do so at no cost on Thursday, beginning at 11 a.m., when Al Unser Jr. – a six-time winner on the streets of Long Beach – and Bobby Rahal will be inducted into the Long Beach Motorsports Walk of Fame at Pine Avenue at the Convention Center.

Unser and Rahal – whose son Graham is an IRL driver – will join past inductees Phil Hill, Dan Gurney, the late Paul Newman, Carl Haas, Chris Pook and Brian Redman.

Also Thursday, the American LeMans Series – one of the support races – will turn out practice laps from 3 to 5 p.m.

There will be no charge for admission into the track.

The Lifestyle Expo in the Convention Center will be open from 3 to 6 p.m. and then Thursday Thunder on Pine will begin at 6:30 p.m. between Broadway and 4th Street. It will feature freestyle motocross, BMX, live music and the Miss Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach pageant. Press Telegram
