Street Circuit in Marrakech receives final FIA approval

The D3 Motorsport Development-designed temporary street circuit in Marrakech yesterday received final homologation from the FIA.

“We have the green light to go ahead with the event!" said Mr. Eduardo Ferias FIA Race Director for the Race of Morocco. Construction for the FIA WTCC Race of Morocco commenced in September 2008 and the finished product is the talk of Morocco.

Mr. Ferias stated he was very impressed by the amount of work that had gone into constructing this circuit, and with the quality of the finished product. “I had seen it [the circuit construction progress] in October [2008] and there was basically nothing, then again at the beginning of March [2009] when there was something. I was impressed when I arrived here on Monday with all that I saw, especially the quality of the work."

The D3 Motorsport Development team has been on the ground in Marrakech since early January working closely with local construction company Groupe Menara to manage the implementation of this unique circuit. Heath Dickson, Operations Director of D3 Motorsport Development said, “We are very happy to receive final circuit approval from the FIA. This circuit has come along way in a relatively short period of time."

The 4.54km long circuit is located in the newly developed, upmarket housing and hotel area of Agdal just 10mins from the action packed centreville. Teams started arriving earlier in the week and FIA WTCC Event Director Maurizo Bartolomei said first impressions are “wow!"

Cars are on track this morning for the start of practice. For further information, please visit d3motorsport.com or marrakechgrandprix.com
