Bruton Smith changing New Hampshire fencing

Speedway Motorsports Inc. Chairman Bruton Smith said Monday that tracks need to evaluate their fencing after Carl Edwards got into the catch fence last month at Talladega Superspeedway and debris injured seven fans, and that he is changing it at the New Hampshire track his group owns.

Smith, whose company does not own the Talladega track where the crash occurred, and whose last fan racing-related tragedy came in 1999 when debris from an Indy Racing League car killed three people, said he already had started the process of replacing fencing at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, which he bought prior to the 2008 racing season.

“Let’s fix it because the sport is at risk," Smith said Monday following the unveiling of the Coca-Cola 600 trophy, later adding, “The thing we need to do at all the speedways [is] to make sure we have the strongest [fencing] there is." More at Scenedaily.com
