Road America to Host Vintage Race and Family Tailgate Party

Road America will hold its 10th Annual Family Tailgate Party during its SVRA Spring Vintage Weekend. The Family Tailgate Party will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2009. The Spring Vintage Weekend is a three-day event, May 15-17, 2009.

The tailgate party will feature special guests Miss Wisconsin-Briana Lipor, Alice in Dairyland-Ashley Huibregtse, grilling buddies Mad Dog and Merrill, Nickelodeon's Patrick; the unveiling of Project GRILL; live music by the Ricky Raybine Band; kids' golf and milking demonstrations; craft projects; track tours; a fantastic car and motorcycle show; door prizes; and track-side viewing of the vintage races. Participation in the kids' big wheel contest is available by advance registration by May 13th at Community Bank & Trust offices. Space is limited. Event sponsors are Cedar Crest Ice Cream, Charter Communications, Community Bank, Lake 98.1, Jim Pankow Inc., Plymouth McDonald's, St. Nicholas Hospital, and the Sheboygan Press. Events run rain or shine. The tailgate party is 10 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Admission is free by entering Gate 5 on Hwy 67.

The Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) provides great wheel-to-wheel racing for fans of vintage and historical cars. Over 300 participants race in ten groups. Friday's track activity will end with a 200-mile, 50-lap, two-stop enduro race for Production and GT cars. On Saturday, a 100-mile, 25 lap, one stop enduro race for Sports Racers and Formula Cars will wrap up the day. Road America's park-like setting offers fantastic views of the undulating circuit while its fan-friendly paddock allows spectators to close to the cars and talk to the racers. Gates will open to the public each day at 7:00 a.m. Admission is $75 for the 3-day weekend, $15 Friday, $30 Saturday and $30 Sunday. Kids 12 and under are always free with a paying adult. Races run rain or shine.
