Indy Saturday Notebook – 4

The first batch of qualifiers are done at Indy, and 30 of the 33 spots are filled. Fastest among today's qualifiers is Robert Doornbos, at 221.692.

Several drivers had runs which no doubt puckered the driver's gluteus maximus muscles to the point where Nomex underwear become thongs. Buddy Lazier had a run which had the average speed falling by 2 mph on each lap. John Andretti called it quits after 2 exciting laps as well. Milka Duno put in a solid first lap, but almost collected the wall at the exit of turn 3, and her second lap was 7 mph slower as she no doubt hit the brakes to regain control.

More and more it looks like 3 drivers will not make the show, providing of course no last-last minute entries present themselves. Right now those are Hunter-Reay, Nelson Philippe and Buddy Lazier. Alex Tagliani, Bruno Junqueira, Milka Duno, Mike Conway, John Andretti and Stanton Barrett are not yet in the show. Tim Wohlford reporting from Indy
