Richmond Int’l Raceway names event sponsor

Adding to an already stellar lineup of race entitlements during the open-wheel weekend at Richmond International Raceway, track president Doug Fritz announced today that the USAC National Sprint Car Series race on Friday, June 26 will be named the USAC Sprint Car Series Rotondo Weirich (ruh-TUN-doh WY-rick) Showdown.

The open-wheel weekend–June 26-27–will also feature the SunTrust Indy Challenge IndyCar Series race and the James River Grounds 100 USAC Silver Crown Series race on Saturday, June 27, as well as Friday's NBC12 Pole Qualifying for the IndyCar Series.

"Rotondo Weirich is excited to be a part of the events during the open-wheel weekend at Richmond International Raceway," said Rotondo Weirich president Steve Weirich. "We are pleased to be working with the Richmond International Raceway team this year. Rotondo Weirich and RW Motorsports welcome our clients and friends to Richmond International Raceway and look forward to an action-packed (and winning!) race weekend for both the USAC National Sprint Car Series and Silver Crown lineup."

"We are happy to welcome Rotondo Weirich to our great list of race entitlements during our open-wheel weekend at Richmond International Raceway," said track president Doug Fritz. "We are excited to have them on board for our thrilling summer IndyCar/USAC Series event weekend."

Rotondo Weirich is a specialty contractor that produces high quality, pre-finished, concrete housing modules. Over the past decade, RW has melded the qualities of a plant-based precast operation with that of an on-site contractor to become the only company that mobilizes the entire production and finishing processes to the project site.

The company is familiar with USAC racing, as Steve Weirich and Mario Rotondo formed RW Motorsports in 1999. In 2003, the team earned a USAC Silver Crown Series win with driver Rich Tobias. In 2007, with a two-driver lineup, RW Motorsports earned a win and two second-place finishes with Mat Neely and Jerry Coons Jr. as pilots.

The following season, RW Motorsports became the first USAC Silver Crown Series team to be powered by Toyota. Coons Jr. captured the series championship. This season, the RW Motorsports lineup includes Coons Jr. and Shane Hmiel in the Silver Crown Series, as well as Dave Darland in the USAC National Sprint Car Series.
