USA Today names VIR Camp in top-10

USA Today has named Camp Motorsport's Adult/Child program as one of the ten best multi-generational summer camp programs in America.

"We are thrilled to have been selected" shares Director Diane Tyrrell. "We are pleased to offer a program where kids and adults can participate together at camp. The Adult/Child Camp Sampler Weekend program is a wonderful bonding opportunity for adults & children to spend some quality time together".

Camp Motorsport is a race car driving resident camp that operates at a real live racetrack at VIRginia International Raceway, near Danville VA. In the Adult/Child program, participants spend the weekend getting a taste of a little bit of everything the camp has to offer- driving, swimming, and participating in other activities which are both racing-related & recreational.

Of course the highlight of the program is the driving. During the weekend stay, each adult and child participant experiences driving each of the various cars and karts the camp program has to offer, including getting behind the wheel of a mini-cup ½ scale stock car, rally off-road dirt kart, and racing go kart. Kids and adults alike drive the cup cars and go karts by themselves. The off road dirt karts are a tandem driving experience, and include some exciting activities designed to get the adult/child pair working together as a team.

"We use the tandem driving as a bonding activity, like setting up a challenge intended to help improve communication skills" shares Camp Motorsport Director Diane Tyrrell. "It's interesting to watch the dynamics when suddenly the Dad is the passenger and his 10 year old son is the driver, and they have to accomplish a set of goals. But the end results are pretty impressive, and they have a lot of fun!"

Participants also get to experience a real track pro-driven ride-along in the Vexton Mark 1 ride car, a full-size open cockpit Indy-style racecar. Riders sit in the front, where they can see the track, feel the wind, and really experience the thrill of a racecar on a real racetrack.

And the program is indeed multi-generational, with kids ages 8-12 participating along with adults who may be a parent or other family member. "We get Grandparents, Uncles, and Aunts attending" shares Tyrrell.

Not only is the program action–packed, but it is also affordable. The fee is all-inclusive, and includes accommodations, meals, program activities, and all required driving gear. "Families really like our program and spaces fill up fast. Last year we had a wait list for enrollment and had to turn people away. We are running extra weeks this year to try to meet the demand".

Adult/Child programs are on weekends in July and August and are open to children ages 8-12, attending with an adult. Camp Motorsport operates on site live at VIRginia International Raceway, nestled on 1300 acres of rolling hills & woods near Danville Virginia. No prior driving experience required to attend. Camp Motorsport is fully accredited by the American Camp Association.
