Road America still wants IndyCar race

George Bruggenthies isn't giving up hope of the Indy Racing League coming to Road America in the future. The track's president and general manager remains hopeful that America's largest open-wheel racing circuit will one day return to the area.

"The conditions would have to be right," Bruggenthies said Saturday at the SCCA's June Sprints. "It would have to fit in the schedule and work financially. Right now, there's a market saturation."

Road America has been without an IndyCar event since Champ Car and the IRL merged before the 2008 season. Champ Car last ran here in 2007 and had a more than a 20-year relationship with the track.

The IRL's schedule includes races in Detroit, Milwaukee, Iowa and Chicago, so placing another venue in the Midwest could be tough. Still, Bruggenthies leaves the door open.

"We maintain communication with all the groups," Bruggenthies said. "We want them to be here and hope it will work out." Sheboygan Press
