Speed and CBS team to televise 2010 ALMS races
SPEED, recognized as the leader in motorsports programming, will telecast seven races for the world’s leading sports car championship beginning with the 58th annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring presented by Fresh from Florida on Saturday, March 20. It will also air the Series’ stop at America’s premier street course race, the 38th running of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach on April 17.
CBS takes over May 22 for the six-hour Monterey Sports Car Championships at one of America’s most revered sports car courses – Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. CBS also will broadcast Round 6 on August 7 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
Following the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 12-13, an event at which many of the Series’ teams are invited to compete, the schedule resumes with SPEED telecasts for the July 10/11 race weekend at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, UT and the July 24 American Le Mans Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park before giving way to the second CBS telecast (Mid-Ohio).
The final three SPEED telecasts are the August 22 race at Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI; Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada on August 29; and Road Atlanta on October 2 for the season finale and Petit Le Mans, the American Le Mans Series’ cornerstone 10-hour/1,000-mile event.
“SPEED has been a valuable partner over the years," said Scott Atherton, President and CEO of the Series. “Fans have come to recognize it as the leader in motorsports programming and information. Both its on-air and online product are second to no one in the industry. It has been gratifying to see SPEED grow to more than 80 million homes which in many ways has paralleled the Series’ own growth.
“In addition, we welcome CBS back to our television lineup," he added. “Both television partners have played valuable roles over the years as we have developed and introduced innovation to our telecasts much in the same manner that we do on-track."
Actual telecast times will be announced at a later date.
