FIA reacts after Rosberg speeding glitch

(GMM) F1's governing body has reacted after Nico Rosberg escaped penalty despite speeding during a safety car period at Suzuka two weeks ago.

The stewards considered penalizing the Williams driver after the Japanese race, but investigations revealed that he was unable to keep track of his lap time because a low-fuel warning message was filling his digital display.

Germany's Auto Motor und Sport reports on Thursday that the situation was due to the fact that the display of the fuel warning was given a higher priority than the safety car delta time by the standard electronics supplied by McLaren MES.

The FIA has reacted to the glitch by allowing the teams to program their own priorities for the drivers' digital display, meaning that in future the standard ECU software cannot be blamed for speeding.
