Cosworth expands F1 staff

Cosworth has hired experienced F1 engineer Gerry Hughes to be the head of its team liaison next year. Prior to joining Cosworth Hughes was employed with the abortive Lola F1 team and then worked on the development of KERS for Lola's LMP1 project. Last year he was technical director of the championship-winning A1GP Team Ireland, having moved there when Super Aguri F1 closed down. He had joined Super Aguri in 2005 as worked as chief race engineer and head of research & development.

His career began with an MSc at Cranfield University in 1993-1995. He then joined Williams Touring Car Engineering Ltd and was race engineer to Jason Plato and Alain Menu. In 1999 he moved to Prodrive and worked with the championship-winning Ford Team Mondeo operation before being transferred to Ford's Jaguar F1 operation in the summer of 2000 where he race engineered Eddie Irvine. He then moved on to join Jordan in 2003 as head of race and test engineering until the team was sold to Midland and he moved to Super Aguri.
