ALMS Thursday Thunder

No need for an umbrella.

The thunder scheduled for Thursday night is simply signaling the start of the race weekend … and the return of the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patr¢n to the streets of Long Beach.

During the annual Thunder on Pine event – set to begin on Pine Avenue in downtown Long Beach at 6:30 p.m. – two of the Series’ best-known names will be in action. From the GT class, the crew of Corvette Racing’s No. 4 Corvette C6.R will be in action for the masses lining the sidewalk, complete with tire changes and driver switches – Olivier Beretta and Oliver Gavin will have the honors.

Luis Diaz, Ricardo Gonzalez and the No. 80 Car Amigo – Alex Job Racing squad will represent the GT Challenge class with their Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car. The AJR entry is one of 10 GTC cars entered for the second round of the 2010 season.

Each pit stop will reveal the two unique styles of pit stops preformed by the Series. By rule, all LMP and GT teams operate pit stops with four tire-changers over the wall during a race. The Challenge entries – both LMPC and GTC –include one tire-carrier and one tire-changer over the wall at one time.
