Michael Waltrip Spa 24 update

The last place you would expect to see a NASCAR driver like Michael Waltrip this weekend is in Spa, Belgium. So how does he like driving at the famous circuit, so much different than the American ovals he is used to?

“Driving a Ferrari in the rain is like driving a NASCAR, they get out of shape the whole time, so that’s about fine. What I didn’t like was driving on slicks in the rain; I thought that I would have to changes pants as well as tires."

“I’ll tell you what’s cool about this place is the back straightaway, in 6th gear, in a Ferrari, and you can’t see where you’re going!"

Asked what was it that attracted him to endurance racing? He replied, “These guys race hard; this isn’t endurance racing, it’s a sprint. I thought that there would be some slack, but there’s not. These cars are tuned and the guys are charging the whole time. I got a whole new respect for these guys and what they do here."

At which point MW disappeared into the garage to take on some much needed fluids, to get some rest, and to contemplate an early morning stint before the run to the finish. Nathan Heywood reporting from Spa
