Jeff Gordon’s ex-wife, Brooke, involved in custody battle

UPDATE A petition to change the boy’s last name from Gordon to Dixon was approved last Tuesday by the Mecklenburg County clerk of courts in Charlotte.

07/20/10 A Charlotte man who fathered a child last year with Jeff Gordon’s former wife, Brooke Gordon, is now involved in a custody dispute that has included whether the child should have the last name of the Hendrick Motorsports driver.

James Dixon II has filed requests in North Carolina District Court in Charlotte to have Brooke Gordon agree to change the child’s name and for Brooke Gordon to provide him with support to help raise the child.

A proposed settlement offered by his lawyer that is filed with the court documents has suggested $10,000 a month, while a separate letter has also suggested a house valued between $1.2 million and $1.5 million and a Mercedes Benz.

The former Brooke Gordon, meanwhile, got married in May to former South Carolina gubernatorial candidate Mullins McLeod, who is not the father of the boy.

As of now, the child’s last name is Gordon – as in Jeff Gordon, the four-time Cup champion who was once married to Brooke, a former Miss Winston he met in victory lane after winning a Daytona 500 qualifying race in February 1993. More at Scenedaily.com
