Bernie: NY USGP just a pipe dream
Since Austin was in May confirmed as the new home of the revived US Grand Prix from 2012, there have been continued suggestions that F1 needs to establish an additional race in the country in order to increase its presence in the American market.
F1 supremo Ecclestone has long held the ambition of staging a grand prix in New York, and prior to the announcement of the Austin deal details emerged of plans for a possible race in Monticello.
The United States last held multiple F1 races in 1976-84 and Ecclestone says that could happen again, although stressed that, irrespective of where the sport also went, Austin would remain the official home of the US GP.
“Let’s make one thing clear: Austin will be the US Grand Prix," he told the official F1 website.
