Midwest market over-saturated
With Bruton Smith looking to add at least 50,000 seats to Kentucky Speedway it's no wonder races in the Midwest have lots of empty seats. The NASCAR race fans, many of whom are on welfare now, are tapped out. The number of NASCAR race seats the Midwest is trying to fill are as follows:
116,000 Kentucky Speedway
257,000 Indy
75,000 Chicago
129,000 Michigan (at each of the two races)
80,000 Kansas (at each of the two races)
866,000 seats in the Midwest market for races within about 90 days of each other and tracks within hours of each other, too.
Plus places like Iowa Speedway, will have two Nationwide weekends next year, O'Reilly Raceway Park with a Nationwide/Truck event plus Truck Series and other NASCAR events, which put the number over 1 million tickets that need to be sold.
Most of these tracks are trying to sell IndyCar tickets, too, s no surprise that IndyCar racing is hurting.
