Power not concerned about 2011 contract

Penske Racing's best driver Will Power already is the Izod IndyCar Series road course champion and holds a 41-point lead on Dario Franchitti in the overall standings with five races left in the season.

He is having the season of his career. What he is not having is anxiety over not having a contract for the 2011 season.

"What? Should I be?" he asked.

He paused to laugh, though he realizes he is the only Team Penske driver without a multiyear contract.

"Obviously, until you're signed up, you're not sure what's going to happen, but we haven't even talked about it, and I'm not even thinking about it," he said. "I'm focused on trying to win this championship.

"It would be unfortunate to win a championship and not have a ride (the next season)."

Team Penske president Tim Cindric has said the goal is to bring back all three drivers — Power, Helio Castroneves and Ryan Briscoe — next season, and he has no concerns about getting Power a new contract.

Power signed a one-year deal last winter during his recovery from season-ending injuries suffered at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., site of this weekend's Honda Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma. Indy Star
