Homestead President comments on IndyCar’s departure
The Indy Racing League will not be returning to Homestead-Miami Speedway for the 2011 season. This conclusion comes after months of discussion between the IRL and Homestead-Miami Speedway parent-company International Speedway Corporation.
Having grown up in Michigan as a passionate fan of IndyCar racing, I'm with the many IndyCar drivers and fans we've heard from in recent days in being personally disappointed that we won't run IndyCar at Homestead-Miami Speedway in 2011. But in hosting 280-plus events a year at Homestead-Miami Speedway, it's imperative that we make sound business decisions, and currently IndyCar has business objectives for the 2011 season that are not consistent with ours. Should these align in the future, we'd certainly welcome the idea of IndyCar's return to Miami.
That said, we're anxiously looking forward to a fantastic NextEra Energy Indy Championships Weekend Oct. 1-2, and we can't wait to welcome IndyCar superstars and South Florida-residents Helio Castroneves and Tony Kanaan, and the numerous other drivers who count Homestead-Miami Speedway as their home track. Rest assured we'll give them every effort to put on a heck of a show Oct. 2. Source: hms
