Singapore Track jet over $1M

The Trackjet, a machine introduced in Singapore this year in order to keep the street circuit free of dust, is estimated to be costing organizers of the night race an estimated total of 1.77 million Singaporean dollars (850,000 pounds).

Brought in from Malaysia, the Trackjet will make its debut on the streets of Marina Bay this weekend after drivers struggled with an increasingly dusty surface last year.

The vehicle will be the slowest-moving on the circuit all weekend although the huge road cleaner, which boasts a top speed of just 500 meters per hour, is able to suck up dust and other debris from the space of almost 20,000 square meters – nearly 30 percent of the area which the entire circuit spans.

“The Trackjet may be deployed overnight and at the moment there are no plans to deploy it in between race sessions, unless required," Fiona Smith, the Senior Communications Manager for the Singapore Grand Prix, explained to GPUpdate.net on Thursday.
