Damp Suzuka track likely for Sunday qualifying

(GMM) With clothes and spirits still sodden late on Saturday afternoon, the latest weather forecast is that a damp track is likely for the delayed qualifying session on Sunday morning.

"It will probably still be damp, so that will be interesting," said Mercedes' Ross Brawn.

Having called off Saturday's proceedings following an 80 minute delay, the FIA announced that the circuit will be inspected at 9.30am on Sunday before a scheduled green light a half-hour later.

"The forecast is for conditions to improve and for there to be a dry race," added Brawn.

Indeed, the latest forecast from Suzuka is that the incessant rain that began shortly before Saturday morning practice will ease early this evening, becoming progressing lighter into the night.
