New IndyCar a little bit like F1
Tony Cotman, the former ChampCar series technical guru is now in charge of implementing the new rules and regulation for the 2012 IndyCar series. According to his blog on Racer.com, Cotman has provided some details about the new technical rules, most of which we already knew.
- Cotman confirmed that the team would be allowed to use an inline 4-cylinder or V6 engine making 550 HP on ovals and 700 HP on road and street circuits.
- The door is open to use standing starts for the road circuits events, something Champ Car used with great success.
- The new Dallara-based cars would not be equipped with a starter but will use an anti-stall device. That should help cut down on 30-40 percent of the yellow flags.
- The new cars will also be fitted with a manual clutch located behind the steering wheel, and only two pedals, as used in Formula 1.
