Fontana TV ratings continue NASCAR’s plummet

UPDATE The drop continues a trend this year during the Chase with New Hampshire falling 28 percent from 3.2 to 2.3, Dover dropping 23 percent from 3.1 to 2.4 and Kansas down 28 percent from 3.2 to 2.3. The Nationwide Series race on Saturday earned a 1.1 rating on ESPN2 and averaged 1.47 million viewers. That is the same rating as a year ago on ESPN2. Sprint Cup Ratings have been down for three straight years as fans lose interest in NASCAR 1950's technology cars and managed racing.

10/12/10 Sunday's race from Auto Club Speedway posted a 2.3/5 overnight rating on ESPN, down -26% compared to last year's 3.1/6 when the race aired on ABC. There were 5.95 million viewers in 2009.
