Jones to serve as steward in Korea

As Formula 1 heads to the Republic of Korea for the first time this weekend, sporting governing body the FIA has confirmed that 1980 World Champion Alan Jones will be making his debut as the driver steward in Race Control.

Five drivers have served as an FIA steward more than once this season although Australian Jones is yet to take a turn at the advisory role alongside three regular adjudicators.

Now 63, Jones entered F1 with Graham Hill’s team in 1975. Switches to Surtees and Shadow followed, with a first career win coming for the latter at the 1977 Austrian Grand Prix.

Alan moved to Williams in 1978 and clinched a further 11 race victories as well as taking his title, with the last coming at the 1981 Las Vegas Grand Prix.
