Vodafone renews with McLaren team

Formula One constructor McLaren has extended its lucrative title partnership with mobile phone operator Vodafone until the end of the 2013 season.

Under the new arrangement, Vodafone will extend its title sponsorship that was first established in 2007 and will additionally extend its category sponsorship from mobile partner to “total communications partner".

“The success we have enjoyed since our two companies’ partnership began in 2007 has been prodigious," said Ron Dennis, executive chairman of the McLaren Group and McLaren Automotive.

“Of the 68 grands prix staged during our partnership, our drivers have scored 21 wins and 55 podium finishes. Going forward, I’m confident Vodafone McLaren Mercedes will build and improve on our already impressive track record."

Before sponsoring McLaren, Vodafone had endorsed rivals Ferrari from 2002 to 2006 in a deal worth £23 million a year.
