Renault confirms Petrov rear wing problem

Renault has verified that a fault with the car’s rear wing caused the accident which saw Vitaly Petrov sustain a heavy impact in first practice for the Brazilian Grand Prix.

In an almost identical moment to that of Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari in 2004, the Russian’s car speared off the track at the high-speed Ferradura corner, with its right-hand side being destroyed against the tire barriers.

“We lost quite a lot of time this morning after my accident and that obviously had a knock-on effect this afternoon as well," commented the frustrated Vyborg man.

“It’s been a difficult day for me but I have enjoyed driving this circuit, which gives the driver quite a lot of challenges. We need to work hard tonight to ensure that we can make up for the problems we had today."
