Coyne buys barbecue restaurants

An IndyCar racing legend and his wife bought two local Sonny's Real Pit Bar-B-Q franchises last week. Dale and Gail Coyne bought the franchises in Port Orange, Florida and Orange City, Florida as part of a seven-franchise deal, which closed Nov. 15, Sonny's spokeswoman Monique Yeager said. The Coynes now own 16 franchises statewide, making them the largest franchisee.

Sonny's did not make the details of the transaction public, but Volusia County records show the Coynes paid $880,757 for the Orange City property and $1.475 million for the Port Orange property.
