New Kubica rumors ‘completely false’ – consultant

UPDATE (GMM) A figure close to Robert Kubica has slammed reports that the injured Renault driver's condition is deteriorating.

Polish reports on Monday quoted the Pole's girlfriend Edyta Witas as saying the Kubica's physical and mental health has worsened in the wake of his latest surgery.

Renault issued a vague denial, insisting the 26-year-old's "condition remains positive" in intensive care ahead of elbow surgery on Wednesday.

But as for the claims about Kubica's condition taking a backwards step, consultant Stephane Samson told the German media: "That is completely false."

At the same time, Rubens Barrichello revealed on Twitter that Kubica telephoned him on Monday.

"Thank god he is ok, talking normally. I was so happy," wrote the Brazilian.

The Italian hospital caring for Kubica also released a statement about his condition on Monday, confirming that he is "fine".

"His general condition is satisfactory enough as to allow his final surgical intervention to take place on Wednesday," it added.

02/14/11 Renault on Monday played down reports that Robert Kubica's condition worsened over the weekend.

Polish news channel TVN 24 quoted the Polish driver's girlfriend Edyta Witas as saying his "physical and psychological state" has "worsened" since his last surgery.

But Renault quickly issued an update insisting that the 26-year-old's "condition remains positive".

The Polish reports had said Kubica had been moved out of intensive care but is now back.

Renault said: "He will stay in intensive care for the next couple of days to allow a complete check-up and to avoid another change of department before his final operation."

That elbow surgery takes place on Wednesday.
