F1 teams were prepared to boycott

Williams Chairman Adam Parr has said that his team as well as the rest of the Formula 1 field would have boycotted the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix on safety grounds, had it not been postponed by race organizers.

With F1 commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone having left the decision with Bahrain’s Royal family, it eventually announced the cancellation of the race plus its preceding four-day test session on Monday evening.

“The decision was right by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and, if for whatever conceivable reason that hadn't been the decision, I don't think we would have gone," Parr explained to Autosport.

“Had the Bahrain Grand Prix gone ahead I don't think we, and in fact I suspect even all the teams, would have gone.

“It was quite apparent to everybody that we were simply going to make the situation there worse because we would have been a focal point for demonstrations and unrest."
