Peugeot defeats Audi at Spa

Peugeot wins Spa

At the end of a thrilling race, Peugeot scored a double with victory going to the Wurz-Gené-Davidson driver line-up. The works Audis had to be content with third, fourth and fifth places. In LM GTE, Ferrari dominated and scored a double.

The Peugeot 908s were poorly placed on the grid on the sixth, ninth and twenty-fourth rows. Nobody gave the works French cars much of a chance as they were up against the Audis, which had made a big impression in practice. Driving a flat-out first stint Alexander Wurz took the lead from Lotterer’s Audi. His teammates were inspired by his example and they all drove sterling races. At one stage the three Peugeots filled the first three places! They maintained the gap over their German rivals and were obviously more fuel efficient. Only no. 7 (Bourdais-Pagenaud-Lamy) fell back after a few incidents.“

It’s a fantastic victory," said a delighted Anthony Davidson, one of the 3 winning drivers."

It’s a marvelous team performance. We did great stints like all of the Peugeot drivers. We hope to do the same again in six weeks!"

To achieve this they will have to defeat the Audis, which were beaten today after a lot of bad luck, but were as pugnacious as ever. “

It has to be said that no.7 Peugeot was quicker," said an admiring Tom Kristensen, third in his Audi R18 TDI. “They were fantastic, beginning with Alexander Wurz."

The first non-diesel car classified was the Pescarolo-Judd in sixth place overall. Thanks to this victory Peugeot takes the lead in the ILMC after two rounds.

Giancarlo Fisichella scored his first win in endurance and he was as happy as if he had won in F1! The Italian was as red as a beetroot due to his efforts in the hot cockpit of the Ferrari F458 Italia, in which he won in LM GTE Pro with his teammate Gianmaria Bruni. “

It’s a great result," smiled Fisi. “ Our new car’s fabulous and it’s looking good for the Le Mans 24 Hours." In the Sarthe, the new Ferraris will be the ones to beat in the category as they scored a double thanks to Farnbacher-Simonsen’s second place in front of the car that won the first round, the Sebring 12 Hours, the Priaulx-Alsen BMW, which still leads the ILMC classification.

In LM P2, victory went to the Oreca 03-Nissan in the hands of Beche-Thiriet-Firth. The first car in the ILMC was the Signatech-Nissan team entry of Mailleux-Ordonez-Ayari, 5th overall in LM P2.

In LM GTE Am the pace setters in the category Narac-Armindo won defeating the teams entered in the ILMC on a seasonal basis starting with Perazzini-Cioci-Lemeret who finished second in their Ferrari F430 GT. The next round of the ILMC will be part of the Le Mans 24 Hours (11-12 June) for which double points will be awarded.
