Condon Skelly and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Celebrate 100 Years

Condon Skelly witnessed the marriage of Classic Elegance and Indy Nostalgia this past weekend as the Indianapolis Motor Speedway presented the Celebration of Automobiles to kick off the 100th Anniversary of the Indianapolis 500.

More than 250 collectible cars were in attendance for the event, representing each of the 24 manufacturers who produced the cars that roared in the Brickyard in the first Indy 500 in 1911. As a testament to the significance of the Celebration of Automobiles, many owners had traveled well over 1,000 miles to participate in the 100th Anniversary of the 500.

The gathering was the first of its kind for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but its novelty and success left guests clamoring for more. At the Gala Dinner which concluded the Celebration of Automobiles Saturday night, event-sponsor Condon Skelly's Director, Jim Kruse, asked the crowd of collector car owners whether or not they would like to see the event become an annual tradition; they unanimously erupted into a roar of applause.

"Oh, I would definitely come back for this event. It's been a real treat to see the cars and ride around the Speedway track. That's not something I thought I'd ever get to do. I hope they do it again next year," a 1913 Renault owner remarked.

The opportunity to take their vintage cars for a lap around the famed Brickyard was the highlight of the weekend for most of the collectors. When each car crossed the finish line, the 40-year veteran Indy photographer was positioned to take a commemorative snapshot that featured the car crossing the bricks with the pavilion in the background. Each of these photos will be framed and mailed to the car owners, courtesy of Condon Skelly.

At the conclusion of the weekend everyone could agree that the Classic Elegance of the fine collectible automobiles and Indy Nostalgia – ever present at the Speedway – made a perfect match. Condon Skelly is undoubtedly echoed by fellow collectors, saying "we hope to participate in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway's Celebration of Automobiles' anniversaries for years to come!"
