Whiting holds meeting about engine mapping

Following Friday practice at the Circuit de Catalunya, FIA Race Director Charlie Whiting is heading a driver meeting in relation to engine mapping, with the Formula 1 governing body having lifted a restriction earlier this week.

The issue relates to the exhaust-blown diffuser, which allows greater rear downforce generated by the hot exhaust gases which exit from the car. However, the FIA is now looking to clamp down on the part being used while off the throttle and under braking – claiming it must not be used for aerodynamic benefits.

It is believed Mercedes GP is one team gaining a particularly benefit from the concept, which could soon be banned permanently.
