Milwaukee: Does Randy Bernard get it yet?

UPDATE #2 “It was a great race, exactly what everyone told me it would be," said INDYCAR CEO Randy Bernard after watching his first race at the nation’s oldest track. “Obviously, the crowd was pretty disappointing and I don’t want to give up on it yet but I’m also not willing to say we’re going to bring it back. We made some mistakes and learned some lessons and now we need to do some evaluating." SPEEDTV.com

What I did get excited about was the Ft. Lauderdale rumor. This could be a race that really puts the series on the map. Tie in the air show and the celebrity race and you will have a winner. Fans would have the option of going to South Beach, West Palm, or even the Hard Rock Casino for gambling in the evenings. There are miles of pristine beach with warm water for people that want to swim. There are 14 water taxis that run 24/7 that could bring people directly to the race site from everywhere in Ft Lauderdale, Miami, and Pompano. The whole Intercoastal Waterway would open up a whole new dimension. When you start to look at the possibilities it is very exciting.

And as for Danica's comment that the series needs more ovals because she likes them more, well she's going to NASCAR so who gives a hoot what she thinks. What did Danica think about that Milwaukee crowd today? Abraham Rabinowitz, Miami

06/19/11 A reader writes, Dear AR1.com, The crowd here at Milwaukee is horrible. I have to laugh when people advise Randy Bernard to add more ovals to the schedule like New Hampshire, Phoenix, Michigan, Chicagoland, etc. Some people have their heads buried in the sand if they really think race fans give a hoot about watching IndyCars on an oval. So many have failed and as AR1 says – you could shoot a cannon into the grandstands at Milwaukee today and you might hit someone. Except for the Indy 500, NASCAR owns the ovals in the USA and if anyone says anything different to you, they have their head buried in the sand or living a dream of the past before the split when Tony George destroyed a very good thing CART had going.
