Sonoma revs up for IndyCar return

Will Power returns to Sonoma

IndyCar Series racing returns to Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Aug. 26-28.

The series, which boasts the fastest speeds of any racing series that visits the Sonoma Valley, features stars like Danica Patrick, Helio Castroneves and Dario Franchitti.

Will Power reset the qualifying track record last year with a speed of over 108 mph and went on to win the race from the pole. The Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma boasts six winners in as many years, so it's anyone's guess who will take home the checkers.

"To start up front is very important at Infineon Raceway," said Dario Franchitti, 2009 Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma winner. "You have to keep the expectations in check because, yeah, we did great last year and the year before, but each race you go to, no matter what you did the race before or the race last year, you've got to start from zero again and get the car working right, and everybody's got to go out and earn it again."

The event weekend will also include the Formula Car Challenge, Star Mazda Series, SCCA World Challenge Series and Historic Grand Prix. In addition to the on-track racing, fans will enjoy Military Appreciation Day on Sunday as Infineon Raceway salutes our troops.
