Weekly NASCAR cheating report

Johnny Sauter no longer leads the Camping World Truck Series standings as NASCAR has penalized him and the ThorSports Racing team six points because the right rear of his truck was too high following the event Sunday at Pocono Raceway.

With the six-point penalty, Sauter dropped to second in the standings, one point behind Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Dillon.

Crew chief Joe Shear was fined $5,000. Team owner Mike Curb also was docked six owner points.

The truck Sauter raced was a backup after he had crashed in qualifying Saturday. Sauter started in the rear of the field and raced his way to a fourth-place finish.

NASCAR also announced that Roush Fenway Racing crew chief Mike Kelly and TriStar Motorsports crew chief Gary Cogswell were fined $2,500 and put on probation until Sept. 21 because of lug nuts that were less than the minimum thickness. Those lug nuts were discovered during prequalifying inspection Aug. 6 at Iowa.
