Scheckter, SH Racing will return to series in Baltimore

Tomas Scheckter

Tomas Scheckter and SH Racing will rejoin the Izod IndyCar Series for next month's inaugural street circuit race in Baltimore on Sept. 4, but their program won't be in partnership with KV Racing Technology.

Program officials on Thursday announced that they will not be with the team that helped them finish eighth in the Indianapolis 500 in May. They did not specify their plans, but the technical partner they select is part of planning for next season. SH is owned by James Sullivan, but it's a race team on paper only; it doesn't have IndyCar assets other than a contract with Scheckter and sponsorship. It will partner with another team at Baltimore and next year.

Scheckter is competing in this weekend's race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in place of the injured Justin Wilson, who suffered a fractured back last weekend during practice for the race at Mid-Ohio. Wilson, who drives Dreyer & Reinbold Racing's No. 22 car, is set to be out of racing for three months, which means his season is over. However, doctors say he will not need surgery. AutoWeek
