NASCAR Hall of Fame continues to bleed red-ink

The NASCAR Hall of Fame has reported a $1.42 million operating loss for the fiscal year ending June 30. Owned and operated by the City of Charlotte, N.C., through a license from NASCAR, the attraction opened in May 2010 and will induct its third five-man class in January.

The hall's losses are covered by Charlotte's tourism board reserves. But almost $980,000 is owed to NASCAR, which has deferred collecting royalties until the facility becomes profitable. The year-end loss was slightly higher than the $1.24 million predicted in January. June attendance was 17,604 visitors, compared with 28,678 for June 2010, the month after the hall opened.
