Goodyear to return to Bristol for September tire test

Goodyear officials will return to Bristol Motor Speedway next month to continue development of a race tire suitable for the 0.533-mile concrete track, but the move is not in response to concerns following Saturday night?s Irwin Tools Night Race, according to Goodyear officials.

The test, scheduled for Sept. 27-28, had been planned well in advance of the race, officials said.

Teams expected to participate are Earnhardt Ganassi Racing (Jamie McMurray), Richard Petty Motorsports (Marcos Ambrose), Germain Racing (Casey Mears) and Furniture Row Racing (Regan Smith).

Roush Fenway Racing driver Greg Biffle described the tire provided Saturday night as ?awful on this race track? after struggling to a 31st-place finish.

?The rubber it puts down just doesn?t make for good racing,? Biffle said, noting that, ?the tire we had a couple generations before this was way better.

?Hopefully Goodyear will look at it and we will have something new next time.? Scenedaily.com
