Andretti completely cleared of any wrongdoing

Bethlehem police have cleared Marco Andretti in the case of the broken parking garage gate, saying video evidence shows the renowned racer had no role in the incident.

A witness told police investigating damage to the North Street garage gate Thursday night that three men had broken the gate and driven away. The license number provided by the witness belonged to Andretti's car.

The incident was reported in area media after Andretti's name was listed on a police report.

On Friday, police reviewed video that showed two cars in line at the gate, which apparently malfunctioned and failed to rise after payment efforts were made.

A man left Andretti's car and tried unsuccessfully to lift the gate. A second man from the car behind Andretti's then tried to lift the gate and broke it, police said in a statement.

That man contacted the Bethlehem Parking Authority on Friday and said he would pay for the damage, police said.
