Conquest Endurance announced today that ex-Formula One Brazilian driver, Antonio Pizzonia, will join the team as a third driver for this weekend’s American Le Mans Monterey Presented by Patron at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
The 31-year-old driver has extensive racing experience and has competed in some of the top racing series in the world including Formula One, IndyCar, GP2, Superleague, Formula 3000, British Formula 3, British Formula Renault, among others. Most recently he has participated in the popular Brazilian Stock Car Series. While he is not behind the wheel of a racecar, the Brazilian driver is also an amateur triathlete and Ironman. This weekend’s six hour ALMS event will mark the first time that he competes in an endurance event.
Pizzonia, a resident of the city of Manaus in Brazil, will join teammates Martin Plowman and David Heinemeier Hansson in the #37 Conquest Endurance/Morgan/Nissan LMP2 car at the six-hour event in the picturesque Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca track. The team is coming off an impressive performance at the Long Beach Grand Prix where they scored a runner-up finish in class after leading the most laps and setting the fastest race lap. The Conquest trio will look to continue the strong momentum this weekend as they attempt to celebrate at the top step on the podium Saturday night.
