Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing Announces Partnership with IUPUI

Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing (SFHR) has renewed its partnership with the Motorsports Engineering program at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI)—a relationship that is bettering both groups and developing a stronger talent pipeline for the motorsports industry.

“We’re thrilled to partner with the Motorsports Engineering Program at IUPUI again this year," said Sarah Fisher, co-owner of SFHR. “Our programs have not only paralleled each other in terms of growth over the past few years, but we’ve also had the opportunity to intersect in some very unique ways to promote education and the depth of the talented workforce in the motorsports industry together."

As the youngest woman to compete in the Indianapolis 500 – then the first full-time female IZOD Indy Car series owner – Fisher is living proof that, given the opportunity, young talent can accomplish big things. And that’s also why she and SFHR have invested in programs that build into the motorsports industry of tomorrow.

“We’ve built this team on a belief that the ability to succeed isn’t fueled by age as much as desire, natural ability and hard work," added Fisher. “We see in IUPUI a similar philosophy that is leading to real results in both cases."

IUPUI’s results are tangible, especially for students like Justin Penix. Penix will graduate in May from the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology at IUPUI with a dual degree in Motorsports Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. He has already been hired by Fisher’s team, thanks to the hard work he invested in his motorsports engineering education and two years of reliable – and impressive – work as an intern with SFHR.

“As we celebrate the fourth anniversary of our B.S. in Motorsports Engineering Program, we are thrilled to launch a number of outstanding students like Justin straight from their time as a student into a career with well-respected groups like Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing," said David Russomanno, Dean of the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology at IUPUI. “We are very proud to have the opportunity to partner with SFHR this year as the team continues to exemplify the character, excellence and ingenuity we strive for every day."

IUPUI will display its logo on the No. 39 Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing car driven by Bryan Clauson in this year’s ‘Greatest Spectacle in Racing,’ the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race. IUPUI and SFHR will also be seen together throughout the eventful month of May in Indianapolis as excitement builds for the 96th Running of the Indy 500.
