Bacon Leads Toyota 1-2 At Hut Hundred

Brady Bacon passed Jerry Coons, Jr., on Lap 99 of 100 to win the 60th running of the Hut Hundred, while Wilke-Pak teammate Chris Windom crossed the finish line right behind him to give Toyota a one-two finish Saturday night at the Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind.

The victory gives Toyota its third win at one of USAC’s most prestigious races in a nine-day span after winning the ‘Hoosier Hundred’ and ‘Night Before The 500’ events last weekend. The triumph is the fourth straight for Toyota-powered cars in USAC National Midget Car Series competition.

“Right before the red (on Lap 86), we were right on (Coons) and got up beside him a couple times. I think our car was getting better than his as the race went on," said the 23-year-old Bacon. “Unfortunately, he broke at the end. I think we still had a shot at him anyway, but I’ll take it. The last 50 laps we were running pretty hard, and the last 10 laps we were running really hard, determined to get by him."
