Pete Bovenberg’s MBO Motorsports team to use unfair advantage at Thunderhill
Bovenberg in the red Civic battles his way through the field at Sonoma |
Napa, CA — The MBO Motorsports Honda team has decided to use an unfair advantage in order to gain some valuable points at the August Thunderhill race in the Nitto Tires United States Touring Car Championship (USTCC). The team’s regular driver Pete Bovenberg will not drive at the fourth race of the season in August, instead filling the seat of the Honda Civic will be Brandon Kraus, the current USTCC Driving Champion.
The MBO Motorsports Honda Civic has not had a great season with the two time Driving Champion behind the wheel. So far this season, Bovenberg managed to finish eighth in race two and did not even get to finish in the first race. At round three at Sonoma Raceway, Bovenberg finally had a good qualifying performance and looked to win but a stall at the start put him at the back of the field and he had to work his way through the field and eventually finished in third, setting the quickest lap of the race in the process.
The team now hopes to use the talents of Kraus who has shown terrific speed in order to try to win the fourth round and bring the team higher in the championship points count. Bovenberg is currently in seventh position and a victory is seriously needed to give the team a boost. The team also hopes to use Kraus’ well known talents for setting up a race car chassis. One of the team members who wanted to remain anonymous stated that “Kraus can set up a chassis very well and we need that talent quickly in order to start winning. The season is half over and we need to start earning more points."
The teams will begin arriving at Thunderhill on Friday and will spend Saturday practicing and qualifying and getting ready for the Sunday afternoon race. Kraus has not raced in the USTCC all season but has been keeping himself sharp by driving other types of cars.
Round four of the USTCC is on August 18-19, 2012 at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, California. For more information on the race visit www.ustcc.com or www.facebook.com/ustcc
